PhD researcher Jian Huang and Dr. Erkan Aydin attended the tandemPV 2026 Workshop in Berlin, Germany, at the Akademie der Künste.

Dr. Erkan Aydin and PhD researcher Jian Huang traveled to Berlin, Germany this June to take part in tandemPV 2026, the sixth edition of the International tandemPV Workshop Series. Held from June 17–19 at the Akademie der Künste, the event brought together over 200 researchers and industry professionals from the silicon, tandem, and thin-film photovoltaic communities to share the latest advances shaping the next generation of solar energy devices. The workshop's packed program featured more than 120 oral and poster presentations, invited talks, keynotes, and a panel discussion, offering plenty of opportunities for the group to connect with colleagues and exchange ideas on the state of the art in tandem photovoltaics.
Jian Huang presented his work as a poster presentation titled "Enhanced charge extraction in textured perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells via molecular contact functionalization," recently published in Joule. The study shows that incorporating bromine-functionalized self-assembled monolayers with conjugated linkers improves interfacial quality and charge transport in textured perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells, leading to denser molecular packing, reduced lattice strain, and improved device stability. At the workshop, Dr. Aydin chaired Session 3: Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Solar Cells, moderating alongside Angelika Harter (HZB).
Dr. Aydin also serves on the workshop's organizing committee, where this year he led the Emerging PV Stability Contest. He introduced the winners of the 2026 edition: Kerem Artuk (EPFL/CSEM), who won the tandem device category, and Rabindranath Garai (Rice University), who won the single-junction category.
