Our research on perovskite-based high-efficiency multijunction solar devices designed for space applications was highlighted in a statewide documentary — a milestone for our young group at LMU Munich.

The Aydin Group at LMU Munich was recently featured in SAT.1 Bayern's documentary on the future of next-generation solar technology. The segment spotlights our work on perovskite-based tandem and multijunction solar cells engineered to withstand the harsh conditions of low Earth orbit — radiation exposure, extreme thermal cycling, and the vacuum of space.

While silicon-based photovoltaics dominate terrestrial markets, perovskite devices offer a compelling route to ultra-lightweight, high-efficiency power generation for satellites and space infrastructure. Our group focuses on interface engineering and stability strategies that bridge the gap between laboratory performance and operational robustness in both terrestrial and space environments.

"Delighted to see our young group's core mission recognised on a statewide platform — perovskite solar technology for space is no longer a distant prospect."

— Dr. Erkan Aydin, Independent Group Leader, LMU Munich

The documentary also features the broader Bavarian PV research network, including the group of Prof. Christoph Josef Brabec. We are grateful to group members Cem, Hao, Pratik, and Nikil for their hard work, and to the SAT.1 Bayern production team for bringing this story to a wider audience.
