TandemPV Workshop 2025 Highlights: Progress and Emerging Trends in Tandem PV Technology
May 15, 2025
The TandemPV workshop took place in Hasselt, Belgium from May 13 to 15, bringing together leading experts and researchers from the silicon and thin-film photovoltaic communities. This exclusive event serves as a vital platform at the intersection of these two critical domains, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to accelerate innovation in photovoltaic technology.
Among the highlights, Dr. Yifeng Zhao from TU Delft presented the collaborative work between TU Delft, LMU Munich, and KAUST on the development of crystalline silicon (c-Si) bottom cells, showcasing recently published research that advances tandem solar cell performance.
Dr. Aydin, has organized the panel discussion at TandemPV for the fourth consecutive year since 2021. These panel discussions have become agenda-setting forums that guide the research focus of many in the community.
The evolving messages from these panels reflect the field’s progress:
-
2022: "Perovskite-based tandem solar cells show great promise. Focus should be on scalability and stability, which need simultaneous attention to unlock full potential."
-
2023: "With efficiency established, the community now turns to enhancing stability, reliability, and durability of perovskite tandem cells."
-
2024: "Industrialization is motivated by proven process scaling and module demonstrations. However, improving long-term reliability remains the bottleneck."
-
2025: "Stability remains paramount, with new reliability test data emerging from tandem PV developers. Additionally, machine learning and artificial intelligence are becoming integral to tandem research, signaling exciting new directions."
TandemPV 2025 clearly reflects the dynamic progress in photovoltaic research and the community’s commitment to overcoming remaining challenges through collaborative innovation.
