Biography

Dr. Selcen Uzun Duran completed her master's and doctoral degrees in Nuclear Energy at Kocaeli University and Karadeniz Technical University, respectively. Continuing her academic career as an Associate Professor at Karadeniz Technical University, she conducted post-doctoral research at the Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Physics in 2017. Within the scope of these studies, she took part in the “Particle Radiation Test Creation Laboratory (METU-DBL)” supported by the Ministry of Development and performed radiation calculations for the installation of the METU-DBL.

Prof. Uzun Duran's research focuses primarily on nuclear and radiation physics. Her main areas of study include developing neutron shielding materials, qualifying electronic cards against space radiation, designing shields, determining environmental radioactivity levels (including natural radioactivity in soil, water, and thermal springs, and radon gas measurements), and conducting particle radiation tests. Dr Duran has served as the principal investigator and researcher on numerous projects supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye), KTU-BAP and the Ministry of Development. She has had articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as in national and international proceedings. Additionally, she has inventions in the field of neutron-absorbing materials for which patent applications are ongoing.

Prof. Uzun Duran's research focuses on space radiation tests for perovskite-based solar cells.
